Well, its kinda bad, well good for first time:)

The text needs lighting.
Also a blue/red gradient on a yellow background?
Do you wear blue and red on yellow jeans?
No.
You need to make things blend together and look nice.
If your into 3D try using Cinema 4D, you can find the trial on their website, or get a keygen for one somewhere.
If you want to stick with Photoshop or Gimp, I would recommend blending objects.

I agree Cinema 4D would be good for this.

But 3D on a Avatar doesn't look that good unless its one letter 3D and the rest normal

its only a start though,

the colours are pretty terrible tbh, i'd try mixing them up for a more pro look,

and you could try spreading out the letters a bit more.

try experimenting with the demo of C4D or something.
