Let's say, for example, that John needs oxygen, food, water, and a shelter to survive.
Now John only needs these things because he wants to survive.
John could just sit in a grassy field and die if he wanted to, because he doesn't want to survive.

Everything you say is objective.
A need is something characterized as needed to survive.
Not wanted.
It's not saying whether you want to survive.
But in an objective sense, yes you are correct
