whenever i try to play a game it either doesn't recognize the disk at all or it will let me play it for a min or 2 and then kick me to the dashboard and say that the disk is unreadable none of my disks are scratched and are even installed to the hard drive. my warranty ran out on the 3rd and i cant afford to pay $100 to get it fixed atm so is there any cheep way i could fix this?

Laser in your drive is dead. Only way to fix it is to replace it. You can open it all up yourself and replace the laser really cheap though. I found this site awhile ago and they have what you need. You can also look on ebay for a new one.

Take your xbox apart to find what drive you have.

This is what i did when mine did that.


-Take the game out

-Unplug it from everything

-Hold it with the tray facing down

-Shake it in an up down motion for 30 sec to a minute

- plug in and play

-May require mutiple attempts, but it worked for me at 2

- I DO NOT TALE RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU DROP YOUR XBOX OR IF YOU BRAKE IT.

why would it cost you 100 dollars to fix? tha'ts just rip off. A new laser is not that much and installing it should be about 15=35 mins tops. you have to remove antistatic strip.
