You cant use jtags online anymore. So you cant get banned. So you wont need kv's.

only a few people can host challenge lobbies but you can mod cod4'5 and host mw2 xp lobbies.

Yeah you need to set up a system link game join get infected and then go online but you wont be able to take your j-tag online at this time hope this has helped you

Edit: If you mod any game you're doing it at your own risk so if you get banned it your fault.

You can put the iso mods on your jtag and play offline thats it.

you can make an iso disk and hotswap on your retail and play online though

You can do many different types of mods such as Infections or Mod Menu's. That is how you see people with menu's and mods online.
