dilf wroter00t_b33r wrote I'd love to get my hands on a Sony Trinitron FW900. CRT is in theory the better technology and when you get a good CRT monitor, it's like no other.People say the FW900 is probably the best monitor to buy for gaming since it's widescreen with a very high resolution and it is CRT, but it costs 600-1000$ on ebay. Only 2 are for sale on ebay
You'll have better luck on forums like OCN and even Craigslist. OR OR OR, you could get a Yamakasi Catleap, which is an S-IPS, 2560 x 1440, 27" monitor for $310 that comes at 60 Hz stock. The kicker is that it can be overclocked out of the box to ~85 Hz, which in itself is insane for this type of monitor. Early runs of the controller board could do 120 Hz, which is just nuts. The perfect gaming monitor, I'd take it over the FW900 any day.

That's the link for a unit checked for dead pixels. They're much more common on these, and if you ask me, $70 is totally worth it. If you want an idea of what these panels look like, they're identical to the ones used in the Dell Ultrasharp U2711 and 27" iMac. Beautiful.

It's a Korean monitor that uses the same LG panel that is used in the U2711 and iMac. They're basically A-grade units, not A+. That means there might be dead pixels, but the dead-pixel guarantee takes care of that. It's also less than half thr price of the U2711 for the same parts that matter. Hell, I don't think the U2711 can overclock, so in some respects this is the superior monitor. The Achieva Shimian, Crossover 27Q, and another monitor I'm forgetting all are similar to this in that they use the same panel. I'm buying one even though I hate glossy screens. For this price, I think I'll be OK.
