You've never tried good headphones, then. You can't have a valid opinion without knowing what you're talking about. Not trying to be mean, but it's just the truth. Skullcandies are objectively bad, meaning it's a matter of facts.
I've tried just about everything and I honestly can't tell the difference between most except those that are obviously superior. Wearing some (in your opinion) good headphones snowboarding would be no different that wearing skull candies for me, because usually they are on and off my ears constantly and through something like a hat.
When you are sitting at home listening to music it's different obviously, I'm listening to music right now through 8 speakers in my basement, two of which are JL audio 10" subs. But small in ears do fine if I'm out and about. Obviously I don't want utter **** though, like the little apple headphones.
Haha, I guarantee you haven't tried everything! This is just the low-end:

Point is that there are cheaper headphones that are better in every way. Build quality, sound quality, looks, durability, and comfort.
By everything I mean a lot, Skull Candy, Beats, Bose, Sennheiser, AKG, Sony, Koss, and that's just a few. (I'm talking brands not specific makes)
It does come down to specific models, though. Sennheiser, AKG, Koss, and Sony all do put out bad products, but we focus on their good releases.
Basically what I'm trying to get at is, extremely fantastic headphones only stand out when there isn't a lot of ambient noise. Which is why I have a fantastic stereo in my basement where it's usually quiet enough to hear mid tones, highs, and lows. As apposed to when I'm snowboarding and the wind is whipping my jacket around and people are talking and my board is making noise, I just can't hear as much no matter how good the headphones are. And another thing is that SkullCandy looks, well in my opinion, pretty good, the icon 2's at least which I have like 10 pairs of them in my board bag.
They also fit perfectly under a helmet or behind. It's all personal preference, I can't tell the difference between most over ears in a normal environment, but if I focus and go somewhere quiet you can really tell the difference.

I get what Minnesota_Nice is trying to say. I did that for lacrosse, put low price earbuds through my helmet because when your doing something active you dont really care or notice the audio quality unless its just wretched. But at home, the slightest flaw in audio quality drives me insane

Personally I think sound quality is plenty evident in noisy environments. I use my Portapros on bus rides and in school and I still find myself picking out details that I look for when I'm listening in the perfect environment. I still don't see why you'd knowingly buy headphones that don't sound as good, aren't built as well, and often are not as comfortable as other options. Other headphones will isolate better as well. If not for sound quality, you should skip on the Skullcandies for build quality and comfort.

If you think I pay for headphones you're mistaken.
I haven't paid for a single pair of my skull candies and I have about 12 or 13 pairs. I win them ALL the time in snowboarding competitions, they always give them away. And they are one of the few brands that fit comfortably under my helmet because the Icon 2's are so thin. And I like how they look. I don't think I ever use them when I'm not snowboarding. I either use Nixon, WESC, or SkullCandy when I snowboard. I have a pair of Nixon Master Blasters that are decent. I like them at least.

Free headphones do offer an infinite price to performance ratio... Hmmm...
If you like them and they make you happy, I can't tell you they don't. I will, however, suggest other things that I think would make you more happy! Seems like the Koss Portapro would be perfect for you as it's similar, if not slimmer. Lifetime warranty, dirt cheap, designed well, and it sounds great, hard to beat for the price. I think I wore mine skiing once, it was... As expected?

It's not a matter of opinion that Beats are trash. I wish it was, but it's not.
