Mayans were politically correct at almost everyone of there predictions. They did predict planet alignment and high solar flare activity for this year. Now just because they stopped making the calendar doesnt mean the world will end.

The Mayans didn't actually make the calender.

It had been in use in Pre-Columbia Mesoamerica since around the 5th Century BCE.

The Mayans simply made sophisticated improvements and refinements based upon what their God of knowledge and time had bestowed upon them.

The Mayans are the most known for their use of the calender because, in the public eye, they are the most recent and mysterious civilization to use it, even though it is still in use today in some parts of highland Guatemala.
