We all know that the Xbox One price in the US is $499, which in direct conversion means less than 400 in pounds. So why are we paying the extra 30+?
VAT.
Value added tax is a scheme set up by the government. I won't go into all of its detail's and why it's there, but below is an article if you want to know the ins and outs of VAT.
If you can't be bothered to read that, in short, VAT (value added tax) is an extra 20% that we get charged on goods to help the economy. This means that with goods like the Xbox One, it's games, headsets and any other accessories, we will have to pay an extra 20%.
(Amazon release prices of some Xbox One games)
NOTE: These prices may change before release, all I know is that right now they are sky-high.
Seems unfair right?
One of the questions I really want to have answered is that if VAT is such a big problem and new games are charged at 55, even though microsoft haven't increased their prices at all for the new Xbox One, why aren't the games at their usual 40 price?
I think it's something to do with a deal in the gaming outlets within the UK but if anyone could answer in detail it would be appreciated.
In short, it looks like us in the UK are going to have to pay extra for everything.

That's only if you order it online, which many consumers won't do. If you were to order it at a UK retailer, they aren't going to ask you for $499 dollars...

EBgames is the same as Gamestop. So that is retail cost. Buying my stuff online will cost a bit more because of shipping prices. People in the US complain about paying $60 for new games i get charged $98-120
I buy games from the UK to save money.
