Turned and Grief is based on the Win/Loss Ratio, so the downs aren't anything.

im just wondering but if your friend is on round 30 something and you join there game finish the round and then the host ends the game could you rank up fast or would it register as you surviving 1 round instead of 30 something.
because i had skull i joined my m8s game after 2 rounds he ended the game and my rank increased to knife through the skull.

The best way to figure out your average rounds from a certain point I found is first download the ELITE app and check out your recent zombie games played. Most ppl will have about 5-7 games recently played ( player channel if u will) . It might suck but what I would recommend is to not play any games till it shows nothing on the app or on your console to start fresh.
Don't play a lot of games in one day because u might compromise the downs / rounds ratio that the rank system goes by. Just play two games a day till about round 30 start on like Monday and do that till Friday . Buried is a good map due to the ally containing Jugg, bottle necking the hordes there by having better control, and working on headshots. Custom games are better because of the fact of ending it in case u screw up and get downed on round 3 but some see that as boosting which I can under stand but it's a game and I don't condone it but in a game u can do what ever u want.
If u get downed in early rounds just stick with it and play it out till 30. On the ELITE app it shows one less round achived so maybe set your goal to 31. Playing on easy one game and normal the next is a good build up for the night. Easy count which most ppl don't think it does but only turned and grief attribute nothing towards rank.
Here a kinda guideline for the week to a for:

Mon game 1: round 31 1 down
Mon game 2: round 31 0 downs
Tues game 1: round 31 0 downs
Tues game 2: round 31 0 downs
Wed game 1: round 31 1 downs
Wed game 2: round 31 0 downs
Thurs game 1: round 31 1 downs
Thurs game 2: round 31 0 downs
Fri game 1: round 31 0 downs
Fri game 2: round 35 0 downs

VIT wrote As you all know, Black Ops 2 Zombies ranking system has been a mystery for the past 1 year after the game came out. and finally, after exactly 1 year after the game came out, the head developer of Call of Duty Zombies, Jimmy Zielinski tweeted out the confirmed information for the Ranking system.

Jimmy Zielinski wrote The Ra k is ive", it ris and lls bas on ho ll y pl erall. I is ba on w ma dow ver y fin nd. Low nd dow cou aga y mo th dow in lat nd.y ne to ma it to hi nd t ri in rank...

If you insert missing letters, it reads:

Jimmy Zielinski wrote The Rank is live, it rises and fall and falls based on how well you play overall....It is based on how many downs verses you final round. Low round downs count against you more then downs in later rounds. You need to make it high round to rise in rank.

So what does that mean? - Very simple.

First, you need to make it consistently to high rounds without taking downs in a low round.
A single down on Round 1, equals to 10 downs on Round 20.

Big Mistake :
Kills divided by Downs NOT EAQUAL Rank

Correct Answer :
Average Rounds divided by Downs = Rank

Jimmy zielinski kept tweeting about the concept of getting to a high round multiple times during the game debut, but people kept thinking the Kill/Down Ratio was the theory.
Second, you cannot leave or finish a game in a low round, you have to do you best on every game. you need to make it to a high round, so leaving a game will be a de-ranker as well.
This explains why people were getting de-ranked after leaving in a low round without a down.

Known this for some time know

System is called 'RPD' (Rounds Per Down)
