It literally took 2 hours to reach level 8. That's not much of a headstart.

They even made the beta free for everyone.

i agree with this completely, i don't understand why people will be mad if they choose to reset everyone for the release, they chose to play the game not knowing if they could keep there stats and like you said a beta is to help them find the bugs and stress test the servers.
