Jeter bowed out of the big leagues Sunday afternoon at Fenway not with a titanic blast over the Green Monster, not with a walkoff single with Sinatra crooning into the October night sky but with a third-inning RBI chop single to third base on a 1-and-2 pitch.

He did what he always did. He came to bat with a runner on third and less than two outs in the third inning of Game 162 and he managed to get his bat on the ball and get the run home. He did his job.

And then he was gone. Yankees manager Joe Girardi sent out Brian McCann to pinch run. Derek Sanderson Jeter hugged a bunch of folks, tipped his cap to the Fenway sellout crowd, and disappeared into the dugout at 2:26 p.m. The Yankees led, 3-0.

I've never been a Yankees fan (St. Louis anybody?), but you really have to respect a guy who has had the career Jeter has. Baseball won't really be the same without seeing him play.

Saw him play his final game in Tampa, he lives down here if anybody didn't know, he lives a few miles away from me. It's sad to see such a recognizable and outstanding sports player such as Jeter but I don't think all the fuss was necessary to be continued throughout the entire season.

Whoever doesn't vote for Jeter and Rivera at their Hall of Fame inductions deserves to have their voting privileges revoked.

Anyways, Jeter is a legend and its sad to see him go.

Its sad, because he stood for everything that is right about baseball, but can't beat father time.

I was at the last home game that Jeter played, it was a great game, but, it will be sad to see him go. The Red Sox vs. Yankees rival will never be the same, which i think is part of the reason they gave him that ovation, all things aside. He will be missed very much.

I was actually at the game, the camera doesn't do justice to how loud it was. Very sad to see him leave. one of my favorite players if not my favorite.
