If you want to overclock, then you might have to swap out the mobo depending on your current one and get an aftermarket cooler.

I would Upgrade the GPU if your looking for an upgrade, but you would have to list the Power supply make and model for us to give you any suggestions.

Thanks for the reply. I was also looking at GPUs. I cannot remember the make and model of my PSU but I know it is a 850W PSU if that helps.

It is just being used for gaming really.

A motherboard change would be irrelevant as the OP cannot overclock on a locked CPU. Unless the change is for a cheap-ish board with better I/O or features.

I have recently bought Far Cry 4 and Assassins creed unity and I have a lot of FPS drops and I read on a few sites it can be due to CPU bottle neck.

That i7-4770 is not the cause of your issue it is one, if not the top end consumer CPU around right now. What resolution are you playing at and how many monitors do you currently use?

I meant if he was to overclock and changed the CPU to an unlocked one he would have to change the motherboard depending on the current Motherboard chipset he has now.

op: Was it a pre-built? To find the make and model open up your side panel and there should be some kind of sticker located on the unit somewhere.

But like buxtyy said the system is fine, what are you wanting to do or currently doing that you feel requires improvements?

He'd get negligible gains from an overlocked system for the money he would spend, it would be completely worthless.

Your CPU is more than fine, however if you notice performance lacking in games just get a new GPU, preferably the GTX 970 as everyone recommends.

i agree, i didn't recommend it just informed him if he was to get an unlocked CPU he may require a new mobo.
