Pretty much in the name, basically a reference card cooler is what the Chip manufacturer(Nvidia) provides where as a non reference is where other manufacturers (E.G. EVGA) use a Non-stock heatsink which tend to most of the time be better but you'd be spending 600 pound plus.

Just wait it out man its worth it. The one you linked is also a reference card which use the same method for cooling, its probably less then a week dude till there in stock

personally, I would go with the non reference cooler design, just because it will get a little toasty.

Reference coolers are aight though. Some people prefer them for aesthetic, or prefer the blower cooler. Personally, I'd grab a reference cooler if it was my only/best/cheapest option, but reference 980Ti's don't have backplates, which is shit. The 980Ti is safe until like 99*c anyway, so you'll be fine and as long as your airflow in your case is aight, you'll be fine.
