If you got ride of that drop shadow and perhaps the pattern and use a gradient fill, that would be pretty good sir.

1. Get illustrator, it's so much better when it comes to making logos, and in my opinion you learn alot more, also get rid of that pattern and try to make some layer styles, or if you'd like to, donwload some of the web. There's alot of designers that have layerstyle packs on their YouTubes etc.

How did I not see the seconds version, well for that I'd personally not use stuff like that unless you plan on using it inside of an avatar or such.

For a first logo very impressive. Few improvements to shadowing and gradients and very nice

It would look better as a simple 2d logo - remove the bevel and emboss..
