I know the black box helps and all, but I feel I am being an unsafe driver, constantly looking at my speed, and then when I'm looking down, I don't see the other cars ahead of me and I end up harsh braking, so if I removed it or took it out, would my insurance know ?

Yes, it records stuff like speed. So obviously.

They may just think the car is idle on my drive, for instance when I went on holiday for 2 weeks, my car was sitting on my drive

Would not recommend you taking out your black box.

It wouldn't be able to record any of your driving. Therefore, they would know that you took it out.

I would just put up with it, you will be thankful when your insurance becomes low and you can insure a nice car. No street racing with those fire wheel trims bro.

I did find this though:

Some providers, such as Co-operative, Aviva and Confused.com (owned by Admiral) are skipping out the GPS trackers altogether and replacing them with smartphone applications. After downloading the app, you place your smartphone on the dashboard or in a cradle on the windscreen. You switch on your phone's GPS before you set off on your journey. At the end of the journey youll then be given a score.

I don't know how easy it is for them to tell, but I really wouldn't risk it. I think there's a large fine if they find out.
