Depends who you buy from, if the gold seller does things properly they can stay under the radar which avoids you getting a ban.

On topic, playerauctions is good as it has 2 stage payment scheme, you select the person you want to buy gold from and how much playerauctions takes the payment and holds it in till both you and the seller confirm the delivery, so if you don't receive the payment within the set time period you get your money back. I have bought RS3 GP in the past and recently never been banned.
