So I'm looking into building my first computer but I've never done it ever. My question lies in installing the operating system. Assuming I have everything built right and with an optical drive, I should be able to put a Windows 7 install disk in and setup correct?

Any help would be awesome on this spooky Friday the 13th!

Wait, what? Are you needing a system? Or do you already have a system and need help installing OS? Optical drives aren't necessary, I recommend using a USB to install your OS. I also don't recommend Win7. You'' build your system and boot in to your BIOS before you have to install your OS anyway, so you'll know the system is working, and then you can install your OS.

Win10 isn't a huge difference from Win7, but it's far better for performance and support. It really doesn't make sense to use an old, dated OS. You can use an application like Rufus, or Win2USB to make a bootable USB with your OS.

So I would have to use an existing computer to setup a USB?

If you already have it on a disk just install it from there. There's no reason to make a bootable usb if you already have the disk to install it.

Installing via USB is quicker and easier.

Yeah, a laptop or anything would work fine, as long as you can download an application like Rufus, or Win2USB. Using a USB to install your OS is easier and faster than using a disc.

The install process is the exact same. Actual install time truthfully I have no idea, but overall it would take more time to go download the iso and burn it to the usb then to just put the disk into his computer.

Weird that you think you know better then. Using a USB to install your OS is undoubtedly easier and faster than using a disc. I didn't say the install process was any different with a USB, but technically it is, you plug a USB in instead of putting a disc in to the optical drive.
