He may love the newer Job just as much though.

Plus a 25k increase is a lot and that could help with your family's future..
That's why i am stuck between the two.

Right now i make a lot, enough to live happily. Money is not really the focus as it would be very nice.

But i just don't want to raise my daughter in California and shes way to young to move

I'd give it a miss then if you believe that she's too young for all of this.

No doubt another opportunity will come in the future anyway so I'd just keep an eye out for that!

I'd say take this opportunity, more pay means more money over time and whoever said money can't buy happiness is wrong because lets see how happy any of us would be broke.

In the long run this could benefit not only you but your family, Although you hate Cali its a wonderful place to raise a family.

Life isnt always about making decisions that make you happy, sometimes you have to take risks for better or worse.

Also thought saying this would help since the majority here believe you should stay on your current profession, which to me makes me sounds like a missed opportunity.

Hope you figure it all out and chose the best overall decision for everyone not just yourself.

The cost of living in California can be disgusting depending on the area. When comparing to where you live now, the difference may be substantial. You said the new job would pay $25,000 more a year, but how much are you making currently?

The reason I ask is because I am a strong believer that work should not be the ruling factor of your life, rather life should be the ruling factor of work. I personally will never work a single hour of overtime, no matter what the pay rate is. I simply will not sacrifice my personal and family time with my fiance and daughter for work. As long as I make enough money to pay all of the bills and have a few hundred left over each month to do with as I please, it is enough for me.

All in all, this comes down to the individual entirely. There are plenty of people out there who could care less about how much time they work, as long as they are making bank.

I disagree with this entirely, money cannot buy happiness. What matters is that you are making enough money to pay the bills (and then some). As long as you aren't literally broke, you can be as happy as you want to be.

I need some outside opinions on something, i spoke with my wife and family about it and they gave me their input but i always like to get as much as i can before deciding.

So as most know i am a police officer, I work 4 days a week pulling 13 hour shifts. I make excellent money and love my job HOWEVER...

I took the federal service test a while back which puts you in a pool for certain government jobs/state jobs. I never expected to hear back as i have little college under my belt.

I was called on Saturday regarding a job, i have until Friday to accept it or deny it.

The offer was for a ICE position and would act as a field officer. The pay is VERY good but i would have to relocate to California which is what's pushing me away from the offer as i despise everything about California..

So the question that lies is, should i stay at the Sheriff's Department i am at now or accept it and move...

First of all, Congrats!!!!!!!!!!

I would take the job for several reasons.
1. Guaranteed Opportunity - When you get into the FED inner circle everything opens up. Once you get a GS rating your opportunities increase exponentially. Also, FED's get access to specific jobs not open to the general public that can be very interesting.
2. Retirement - FED retirement packages are legendary and are extremely good. If you look at the difference between retirement packages for Local/State/FED agencies you will see a huge difference.. Plus, the problem is that most pension plans for LEA/Fire in most states and cities are in MAJOR Trouble.

The situations are only going to get worse. Some of these articles are over a year old, but nothing has gotten better. Several places are having problems. Do a search for Dallas, Chicago and anywhere in California to see what I mean.
3. Job/Training - Going FED opens up a world of specialty and training opportunities. Being a member of the SD is a great job and something that you should be proud of, but you will always be limited by what positions are available and budget when it comes to advancement, different job specialty and training opportunities.
4. Security Clearance - TS/SCI clearances are GOLD. They open up a ton of doors.
5. Educational opportunities - Several FED jobs encourage you to get your degree and will help you in several ways (Time off, financial..etc).

Its a tough decision to make, especially when you have to consider your family. I agree with your opinion of California, but to me it's a means to an end.

You will be successful in what ever decision you make and I know that you will be fine whether you stay or go.

Just my .02

If it were me deciding, I would go off how long I would need to work in that job before I can either relocate back to my home town or something like that. You said it opens up more opportunities in the future, what might they be may I ask?

I want to add onto this OP. I don't know where you live now so I don't know the money situation but seeing as you have a family, I'm assuming you need a 3 bedroom house or more. Be expecting to pay easily 3k or higher for a house and living in a decent area. Rent in California is ridiculous for a single parent, a person living on their own without having money and even families if they're raising kids and only one parent is working; unless the single working parents is making something like $40 an hour. Just to give a run down, my houses since moving out of my mother's house at 17 have been as following.

Lake Forest, Orange County - 2 bedroom apartment: $1950 a month
Mission Viejo, Orange County - 2 bedroom condo: $1900 a month
Irvine, Orange County - 3 bedroom house: $2300 a month
Oceanside, San Diego - 5 bedroom house: (don't ask why I had one for one person lol) $2700 a month, only was cheap because I had to do repairs on the house myself, original contract was $3150 a month
Irvine, Orange County - 4 bedroom house: $3900 a month
Tustin, Orange County - 3 bedroom house: $2950 a month
Lake Forest, Orange County - 3 bedroom house: $3000 a month

Yet, when I moved to Colorado for a little bit, 3 bedroom house with an acre and a half of land didn't even scrape a price above 2k. Places like Minnesota I was finding 5 bedroom houses with 2 acres of land for less than $1100. Maybe you can get some sort of discount through your new job to at least cover your moving and/or partial new house expense such as security deposit and pet deposit (if any), because I wouldn't put it pass that you will easily be sinking about 7k+ into this move if the home owner is trying to charge first and last month's rent, plus any other fees, then your moving fee, gas, food, ect. If you're planning to move to Northern California, best of luck, because that's apparently more expensive in places like San Fransisco. If you have the savings already, that would ease your stress with the move, but I would still ask if your job offering can help with anything seeing as you HAVE to relocate. Either way, best of luck with your decision and if you do move out here, hope you can deal with the shit bags that live in a damn bubble, a lot of SJW freaks around here.
