iBeDavid wrote JTAG doesn't stand for anything, it's the name given to the cable found in the printer which is used in the process of 'jtagging' an xbox

Made it stand out at as it's the right answer

This is incorrect. It really does stand for JOINT TEST ACTION GROUP, but it is a low level access standard which allows simple interfacing with Integrated Circuits and Processors. JTAGS are called JTAGS because, if I remember correctly, the JTAG points are used to program a Direct Memory Read loading altered code, and then the System Bus is programmed to execute that code. My description is oversimplified.

Joint Test Action Group (JTAG) is the common name for what was later standarized as the IEEE 1149.1 Standard Test Access Port and Boundary-Scan Architecture. It was initially devised for testing printed circuit boards using boundary scan and is still widely used for this application.

Today JTAG is also widely used for IC debug ports. In the embedded processor market, essentially all modern processors support JTAG when they have enough pins. Embedded systems development relies on debuggers talking to chips with JTAG to perform operations like single stepping and breakpointing. Digital electronics products such as cell phones or a wireless access point generally have no other debug or test interfaces.
