All you have to do to bridge it is solder the resistor... or just download the update from xbox.com and put it on a usb then to your console...

Does the resistor need to be Bridged when you download the update from xbox.com and apply the update that way

I would remove the R6T3 resistor, that way you don't have to worry about it anymore. Bridging the two point with solder, IDK its really small so you want to make sure you are really good with a solder iron. It is easy to remove the R6t3, just use a little solder and just go from end to end real quick and it shold come off no problem.
As far as the update, I wouldn't do it unless you remove the resistor, I know people say you just take the offical microsoft update, and lots of people say don't. I removed my R6t3 and updated with a update for the 12611 as that is the dash I have, and it worked no problem. Just remove that resistor and never have to worry about your jtag hack getting patched and loosing it......only takes a couple of mins and well worth it.
And no you download the update and place it in the root of the usb, F:\$system update like that, just plug your usb into your jtag and turn it on, make sure its the only thing on your usb so nothing can go wrong,

You can never go on xbox live again is this true

no it just prevents updates from microsoft so say your fat friend joe comes over and says"ooo cool jtagz letz host lobbiezzzz all dayz!" and updates to a new dashboard. (whenever the next one comes out) then your jtag will red ring and you just flash back a previous nand image via xell(ous). SO it prevents bricking.

Once you remove it you can't take updates anymore, but why would you want to anyway, jtags wont be online for long after the new dash board update comes out anyway. I just blocked xbox live in console settings and leave my jtag hooked up to the net all the time. So when I install new games it will download all the title pics and screen shots, makes it look nice in the menu when you look through your games..
Oh yeah, if you try to go online with your jtag, instant ban. Why do you want to go online with it anyways, you can just system link.
