Best way but you should look online. BTW if you do start what game or company will you join.
EDIT: I just saw your post and if you are 14 then try to find a college online and see what to get for you to join. Join sports so you can get a full scholarship.

Well think of ideas and become a nerd.
A good thing to buy is a Dev kit for ya xbox. It bypasses and lets you do anything.(around 700$)
And look into programs and visuals and think of good ideas.
But your best bet is to study alot on school and go to colledge stuying media

Man I know where you are at man. If you want to start from the basics and actually get good and get learning I would reccomend going over to your local book store and getting "Video Game Programming for Teens" It costs about $60, but you get a disc with all type of programs and the book teaches you how to use the program and how to program games. I really recommend it.

Lol you have better have something that no one else has. I am already a graphic designer for a company and i am about to be 15. I have the creativity to make beautifull war scenes such scene in World In Conflict. But saying you want to b a video gamer designer is very vague because of how much thing you can design/develope if you have the mind for it i would say shoot for becoming a code monkey to code games because not very many people have the will or mind power to invest the time into it, but it is one of the highest paying jobs in the world and not just video game designing some web coders charge upto $30,000 a hour to code sites. I would say choose your best talent IE. Creativity and a Passion for the work and units i produce makes me a perfect fit for Graphic Designer and Concept Develper (basicly brian storming what should be in the game like for example call of duty 7 when ever it comes out if i was a Concept Develper on the team i would say we need to have the weapons devided by country and have a total of maybe 100-200 guns in COD7... i am rambling now but if you want to know what those two jobs do message me)
