Firstly, you got it nthe wrong way round. 1 GBP used to be about 1.89 USD, but, with the current events, the world has been hit with a slight recession, making it hit about 1.45.

No, it's not. In fact, the GBP is one of most "worth" currencies in the world. I can't really think of what there is that's worth more than it.
