Thanks for checking out my guide and tutorial on efficiently earning Onyx medals on just about every single medal avaliable for grabs in Gears of War 3! All medals are listed in order as seen in the game. Provided with each medal is a brief description, difficulty level which practically refers to both a combination of the time required to earn the medal, the level of hardness to earn the medal, and my personal opinion on how tough the medal is to earn, and also how to earn the medal quickly!

If you have a more efficient method on earning a medal than the method already listed, quote the medal description with your method below the quotation and I will edit it when I see it! If this guide has helped you out in anyway, show thanks! Enjoy!

"Difficulty," goes on a scale from one star to five.

Vengeful:
Execute a certain amount of nemeses
Difficulty: **

This is a medal that requires the help of a friend to earn, quickly. Should you attempt this with a friend, set up a Team Deathmatch game with no bots. 35 kills to win a round with the 10 rounds to win on the map Checkout or Mercy. Simply let your friend get the necessary amount of kills needed to for him to become your "nemesis," for that specific round and match and enjoy executing him or her!

Should you want to attempt this in a bot match, set the match up the same way. Make sure the bot is set to Casual and that there is only one slot for a bot. The only con to this method is that the bot will take alot longer to kill you and it will attempt to kill you repeatedly which will get quite annoying.

Captor:
Kill enemies with a captive
Difficulty: ***

The Captor medal requires a decent amount of kills while you are utilizing the meatshield feature of the game. This medal is easily earned in a bot match. Set up a CTL match and set the bot fill to full. Additionally, set bleedout time to the maximum amount of time, set AI difficulty to Casual, and the amount of rounds to win at maximum while having a maximum capture time for leaders. Regardless of whether or not you are leader, set your iron sights to taking down the enemy leader. Once you bring down the enemy leader, grab hold of her/him and let the AI come running to you. Its recommended you have a Gorgon pistol when attempting this since it has a high fire rate and more power than a pistol.

If you have a friend willing to help you, you can have him or her on the other team and have them shoot you until you drop the leader so you can repeatedly snatch the enemy leader.

War Supporter: Play in Gears Events
Difficulty: *

Simply play in each Gears Event that you can attend. Check the Event Calendar.

MVP: Earn MVP Ribbons
Difficulty: *****

The MVP medal is one of the more time consuming medals to earn. Set a match on Warzone, time limit to 1 minute, AI difficulty at Casual, and one bot. At the start of every match, rush to the one bot and annihilate it. Try executing it to help earn yourself the Executioner ribbon for the Vampire mutator and Finisher medal.

Field Service: Reach a certain level
Difficulty: *

Play Gears of War 3.

Veteran: Play a certain amount of matches
Difficulty: *

This medal is among one of the easiest since you can earn it playing anything that isn't Horde, Beast, or Campaign. You can earn it while you sleep, actually. Set the match settings to Warzone, time limit to 1, bot difficulty to Insane, and one bot. Be warned! Your K/D ratio will be drastically affected due to the fact that the AI bot on the enemy team will have a 50% chance of killing you each match.

You can also earn this medal while trying to earn the MVP Medal. Note that each rank of the Veteran medal will earn you the "Team Insignia," camo for each starting weapon.

Match Winner: Win a certain amount of matches
Difficulty: *

The Match Winner medal is another easy medal to earn. Earn this medal alongside the MVP medal and any other medals that require you to win matches.

Headshot: Get a certain amount of headshots
Difficulty: ***

In my opinion, getting headshots in Gears of War 3 is a real pain in the ***. You have several options, but two of them seem to be effiecient in earning the Onyx ranking for this medal.

Set up a TDM match. Set bots to Casual difficulty, fill team, kills to 35, and 10 rounds to win. I recommend playing on Sandbar since it is a very open map and the AI seems to love rushing out in the open. Additionally there isn't much cover for the AI to hide behind in Sandbar until they reach the middle of the map. Grab a Longshot, after setting all weapon spawns to Longshot, and earn some headshots! Although it may seems slow at first, you will easily begin to predict exactly what the AI will do next and popping headshots will become extremely trouble free.

The second method is somewhat similar. You can set the settings the same, but with the exception of only having one bot. Set all weapon spawns to the starting pistol on the map Checkout. When you locate the bot, shoot it until it drops down and aim for its head. Its alot slower, but less frustrating.

Heavy Weapons: Get a certain amount of heavy weapons kills
Difficulty: *

An easy, easy medal to earn. Simply set all weapon spawns to the Mulcher or Boomshot on the map Checkout or Mercy. Set bots to Casual difficulty and have them fill up the enemy team. Mow them down with the Mulcher or repeatedly blow them to pieces with the Boomshot.

Explosives: Get a certain amount of explosive kills
Difficulty: *

Another easy medal to earn. Set the weapon spawns to Boomshot or frag grenade. Follow the steps stated in the Heavy Weapons medal.

Finisher: Get a certain amount of executions
Difficulty: **

This medal will take some time to earn and will get VERY boring after a while. Set the map to Checkout on TDM with a full enemy bot team set to Casual difficulty. 10 rounds to win and 35 kills to win a round. Run around and chainsaw any bot that stands in your way.

Skunker: Skunk the enemy team a certain amount of times
Difficulty: ?

If anyone has a boosting method for this medal, please quote this and provide one!

Leader: Earn Untouchable ribbons
Difficulty: ***

The Untouchable may seem hard to get, but it really isn't. Set up a private CTL match with minimum leader capture, one bot on Casual difficulty, maximum rounds to win at 10 and set the map to Checkout. Down the enemy leader and capture it. You will earn the Abductor medal and CTL medal while earning this medal!

Abductor: Capture a certain amount of enemy leaders
Difficulty: *

This medal will be earned alongside the Leader medal and possibly the CTL medal should you be active in the matches.

Assistant: Get a certain amount of assists in Versus multiplayer
Difficulty: *****

This medal is one of the most time consuming medals in the game since you will have to actively play in every single match to earn it. You will want to set up a private match to your likings that offers a maximum amount of enemy respawns. Utilize the accuracy of the Hammerburst to get a shot or two in each enemy you find.

Another method is to actively spot enemies and have your allies kill the enemies while they are spotted. This is much more frustrating than shooting them since the spotted enemy loses its "spotted," status in a couple of seconds.

A faster method than the two listed above would be to set up a KOTH match with an enemy team of five friends. Shoot each of them with a Lancer and have another friend destroy them with a Frag or Ink grenade.

Medic: Revive a certain amount of squadmates
Difficulty: **

An easy, but somewhat time consuming medal to earn. Set up an Execution match with Friendly Fire on and bots set to Casual. Have two bots on the enemy team and one on your own team. Set the amount of kills needed to win at the maximum amount along with the rounds to win. The map doesn't matter, but I recommend doing this in Sandbar since the spawn distances are substantial.

Repeatedly down your own teammate and revive. Should the enemy bots arrive at your spawn, let them down you and your teammate and wait for them to kill you both.

You will earn the Kantus character after you earn the Gold (or Silver) Medic Medal.

Cover: Earn a certain amount of Buttoned Up ribbons
Difficulty: **

This ribbon is earned when you have the highest amount of time spent in cover at the conclusion of a match. Set up a private match with bot difficult set to Insane, two bots on each team, and rounds to win to 1. When the match starts, head for cover. Note that this ribbon is earned when using ACTUAL cover. DO NOT CLING TO WALLS! The game rules out walls as cover. Cover objects are sandbags, concrete barriers, fences, pillars, boomshields, etc.

Be warned that your K/D ratio will be affected negatively from this method. If you do not want your K/D ratio to be affected as negatively as it would with the method listed above, set the bots to fill up both teams. Although there might be a stalemate occasionally and it will prevent you from earning the ribbon for some reason, this is a safer method.

Active Reloader: Perform a certain amount of perfect Active Reloads
Difficulty: ****

This medal is tedious and time consuming. The recommended weapon to do this with is the regular Lancer. Sit in a corner and reload.

Lancer: Get a certain amount of Lancer kills
Difficulty: ***

This medal calls for alot of time! Set up a private TDM match. Have bots fill up the enemy team and set their difficulty to Casual. 35 kills to win a round, 10 rounds to win the match. Make sure bleedout time is set to 5 so that way if you get downed you can easily revive yourself before the enemy bots kill you.

Earning the Onyx Medal for any starter weapon will unlock the Onyx Liquid camo for that weapon.

Hammerburst: Get a certain amount of Hammerbust kills
Difficulty: ***

This medal calls for alot of time! Set up a private TDM match. Have bots fill up the enemy team and set their difficulty to Casual. 35 kills to win a round, 10 rounds to win the match. Make sure bleedout time is set to 5 so that way if you get downed you can easily revive yourself before the enemy bots kill you.

Earning the Onyx Medal for any starter weapon will unlock the Onyx Liquid camo for that weapon.

Retro Lancer: Get a certain amount of Retro Lancer kills
Difficulty: ***

This medal calls for alot of time! Set up a private TDM match. Have bots fill up the enemy team and set their difficulty to Casual. 35 kills to win a round, 10 rounds to win the match. Make sure bleedout time is set to 5 so that way if you get downed you can easily revive yourself before the enemy bots kill you.

Earning the Onyx Medal for any starter weapon will unlock the Onyx Liquid camo for that weapon.

Gnasher Shotgun: Get a certain amount of Gnasher Shotgun kills
Difficulty: ***

This medal calls for alot of time! Set up a private TDM match. Have bots fill up the enemy team and set their difficulty to Casual. 35 kills to win a round, 10 rounds to win the match. Make sure bleedout time is set to 5 so that way if you get downed you can easily revive yourself before the enemy bots kill you.

Earning the Onyx Medal for any starter weapon will unlock the Onyx Liquid camo for that weapon.

Sawed-off Shotgun: Get a certain amount of Sawed-off Shotgun kills
Difficulty: *****

This medal calls for alot of time! Set up a private TDM match. Have bots fill up the enemy team and set their difficulty to Casual. 35 kills to win a round, 10 rounds to win the match. Make sure bleedout time is set to 5 so that way if you get downed you can easily revive yourself before the enemy bots kill you. Be warned! The Onyx Medal for this weapon will take much longer than the other weapons.

Earning the Onyx Medal for any starter weapon will unlock the Onyx Liquid camo for that weapon.

Pistols: Get a certain amount of pistol kills
Difficulty: ***

This medal calls for alot of time! Set up a private TDM match. Have bots fill up the enemy team and set their difficulty to Casual. 35 kills to win a round, 10 rounds to win the match. Make sure bleedout time is set to 5 so that way if you get downed you can easily revive yourself before the enemy bots kill you.

I recommend using the Gorgon Pistols.

Spotter: Spot a certain amount of enemies
Difficulty: *

Similar to the Assistant Medal, simply set up a match to your likings. Spot enemy bots over and over. Note that this medal cannot be earned in Horde.

Pyro: Kill a certain amount of enemies with fire
Difficulty: **

Although it may seem reasonable to ues the Scorcher for this, I recommend using Incendiary Grenades. Set all weapon spawns to Incendiary Grenades and Scorchers. Have most weapon spawns set to grenades and some for Scorchers. Set up a full bot enemy team on TDM with 35 kills to win, 10 rounds to win the match. Repeatedly toss or tag enemy bots with grenades and once you run out, burn them with a Scorcher while you work your way over to a grenade spawn.

Sapper: Destroy a certain amount of enemy grenades
Difficulty: *

A very easy medal to earn. Set up a match with your friend, set weapon spawns to Incendiary Grenades, and have your friend plant them on walls. Shoot the planted grenades and viola!

Guardian: Rescue a certain amount of leaders in CTL
Difficulty: **

A somewhat time consuming medal to earn, this medal is also simple to earn. Set up a CTL match on Mercy or Checkout. Have a full bot enemy team with weapon spawns set to a Boomshot. Constantly babysit your team's leader and shoot the leader should the leader be captured by the enemy. If you spawn as leader, go right ahead and lose the round.

You may want to set the AI difficultly to Normal or higher to speed up the bots capturing your team's leader.

CTL: Play a certain amount of CTL matches
Difficulty: *

Set up a private match and have the settings customized to the quickest possible way to end the match.

KOTH: Play a certain amount of KOTH matches
Difficulty: *

Warzone: Play a certain amount of Warzone matches
Difficulty: *

Set up a private match and have the settings customized to the quickest possible way to end the match.

Execution: Play a certain amount of Execution matches

Wingman: Play a certain amount of Wingman matches
Difficulty: *

Set up a private match and have the settings customized to the quickest possible way to end the match.

AllFathers: Bronze Medal or higher in all game modes
Difficulty: *

Set up a private match and have the settings customized to the quickest possible way to end the match for all game modes.

Master-At-Arms: Bronze Medal or higher with all five starting weapons
Difficulty: *****

Requires you have a bronze medal or higher with all five starting weapons. This is a very time consuming medal to earn.

Rifleman: Bronze Medal or higher with all 3 starting rifles
Difficulty: ****

Less time consuming than the Master-At-Arms medal, but still requires a huge amount of frags.

Hard Target: Get a certain amount of Last Man Out ribbons
Difficulty: **

Somewhat time consuming, the Last Man Out ribbon is earned when your entire team is eliminated. To earn this, set up a private match of Warzone with two bots on the enemy team and one bot on your team. Set friendly fire on, all weapon spawns to frag, and bot difficulty to Insane. Have the maximum amount of rounds to win set up.

Down your own teammate and murder him! You can run for the bots and let them kill you or any other method you find that will end the round faster.

Shock Trooper: Earn a certain amount of First Blood ribbons
Difficulty: **

Follow the MVP Medal description as it will earn you this ribbon extremely fast and easy.

Curb Stomper: Curb stomp a certain amount of enemies
Difficulty: *

A simple ribbon to earn. Tap Y when prompted to on a downed enemy.

Battle Mistress: Play as a female in a certain amount of matches
Difficulty: *

Follow the Veteran medal description. Set your faction characters to Anya and Myrrah.

Sovereign: Win a certain amount of CTL matches as leader
Difficulty: *

Follow the Leader medal description.

Special Teams: Get a certain amount of map-based weapon kills
Difficulty: *

Follow the Heavy Weapons and Pistols description.

For the Horde!: Complete all 50 waves of Horde on Casual or higher
Difficulty: *****

There is no real way to boost this. You will need the help of several friends with all fortification unlocks to beat Horde on Insane. A recommend map for Horde on Insane is Drydock. A camping position can be easily set up with a Silverback in the far back of the map right where you spawn (I'm referring to the spawn with a bunch of metal beams/pillars located right behind it.) There is a handy sentry turret and barrier located to one flank to the spawn and a turret site to cover the other flank. With a proper Silverback and turret camping position and one or two people cover the sentry flank, this medal can be completed much more easily.

Note that you will need constant money flowing into the Silverback to keep its health at a desireable level. Two people should focus all assets into the Silverback while two or three others focus their assets on repairing the barrier, turret, and sentry.

Horder: Complete a certain amount of waves on Horde
Difficulty: **

Enjoy playing Horde! You can slightly earn this medal faster by playing on Checkout on Casual difficulty and leaving the match when you arrive at wave 10.

Architect: Earn Founder ribbon a certain amount of times
Difficulty: *

Start a Horde match, build a command post, leave, and start another Horde match. Takes a while, but its the only way to do it.

Squad Leader: Earn Point Man ribbon a certain amount of times
Difficulty: ***

To boost this, follow the Horder description and these steps.

Have another controller sign in as a guest
Start up a Casual match on Checkout
Have the guest move over to a corner
Get to Wave 10
Leave the game
Start Horde again

You can also do the same and enjoy playing horde, but it will take much longer.

Field Engineer: Complete a certain amount of fortification modifications
Difficulty: *

http://www.youtube.com/v/jkKLcyglFI4

Big Money: Earn a certain amount of cash in Horde
Difficulty: *

Follow the steps listed in the Point Man medal description with the exception of the leaving the game step. You will want to keep on playing Horde until you get bored of it. The money you earn is cumalative even if you lose a round over and over.

This medal will take a good amount of time to earn. If you don't mind earning it legitimately, don't boost it! Its a real boring medal to boost for.

Loot Courtesan: Complete a certain amount of challenges in Horde
Difficulty: *

No real way to boost this.

Beast!: Complete Beast without failing on Casual or higher
Difficulty: ****

A very difficult medal to earn, this medal will come with practice on Beast mode. Here is a video of a person earning the medal with a couple of his friends. The recommend map to do this on would be Checkout due to its small size and amount of cover.

Beastly: Complete a certain amount of waves on Beast
Difficulty: **

Repeatedly play Waves 1-5 over and over!

Motivator: Heal or revive a certain amount of teammates in Beast
Difficulty: **

A tedious medal to earn, you will need to do this with friends. Set the AI to Casual and have them continually shoot at your friend(s). Continually heal them with any variant of Kantus. A recommend map to do this on would be Checkout.

Dismantler: Destroy a certain amount of fortification in Beast
Difficulty: *

Continually spawn as a Ticker and destroy the level 1 barriers during Wave 1. Purposely lose the wave over and over and restart horde when necessary.

Ruthless: Kill a certain amount of humans on Beast
Difficulty: ***

A time consuming medal, this medal requires legitimate gameplay of Beast. You can continually lose Wave 1 over and over. Spawn as a Savage Drone and kill Stranded that foolishly rush to you on Checkout on Casual difficulty.

High Roller: Earn the Ready for the Heavies ribbon a certain amount of times
Difficulty: **

Play Beast until you unlock the last row of Locust. Keep on doing this until you earn the Onyx High Roller Medal.

King of Cog: Earn a certain amount of total points in Arcade Mode
Difficulty: ***

Although I have not tried this method, its recommend you set all mutators to ON with the exception of the "fun," mutators. Set the difficulty to Insane and play on the Prologue chapter. Repeat this over and over until you grow tired of it.

You can also, with the help of a friend, brave out the first few chapters of Arcade with as many mutators as possible on with the difficulty set to Normal.

I don't believe any real way to boost this medal has been found.

Number 1: Earn the Number 1 ribbon in Arcade mode a certain amount of times
Difficulty: *

Have a spare controller sign in as a guest and repeatedly play the Prologue Arcade Chapter over and over.

Warmonger: Complete all Arcade chapters on Casual or higher
Difficulty: ***

Time consuming. Set all fun mutators on, especially Infinite Ammo and Super Reload, and have a couple friends play with you. Note that even with mutators on, this will be somewhat hard. Don't rush the AI as they will destroy you instantly. Play as you would without mutators on and you will breeze right through the Insane Arcade Campaign.

Force Multiplier: Maintain max multiplier in Arcade on a certain amount of chapters
Difficulty: ?

I have not found an efficient way to earn this multiplier. It may be possible to exploit the Golden Chicken Easter Egg (automatically grants [+3x] multipler) in the first Arcade Chapter in Act 1 and get alot of kills rapidly to maintain a multiplier of 10 throughout the mission.

Survivalist: Complete a certain number of chapters without dying
Difficulty: **

You can repeat the Prologue chapter over and over again by yourself.

You can also set the difficulty to Casual, set Super Reload, Instagib, and Infinite Ammo and breeze through the first couple of missions or campaign if you want to.

Aficionado: Play a certain amount of chapters in Arcade
Difficulty: ***

You will earn this while earning the Warmonger Medal and Survivalist Medal, but you can boost it easily by repeatedly beating the Prologue chapter over and over.

Doorman: Manipulate a certain amount of objects in campaign
Difficulty: ***

Time consuming.

Tour of Duty: Complete campaign on Casual or higher
Difficulty: ***

I'm not sure if the game considers Arcade and Campaign to be the same thing, but this medal should be completed once Warmonger is completed. If not, enjoy an extremely difficult Gears of War 3 campaign!
