i believe they patched it with the recent update

Get a dispenser, place one of whatever u want to duplicate into it and make sure that there is none of that item in your inventory, then begin to break the dispenser with a pick axe and then switch to something weaker say a minecart right before it breaks and then allow it to break. then select it after it re-appears (may not work first time) and press a on the item until the dispenser dissappears once more. If done right a block should appear on the ground where the dispenser was. First drop all of that item and pick up a block off the ground. Go to the inventory and the item sholud appear as a 64 stack. Then place one block into your inventory from your "hot key" area to have a 63 stack in your hand. After that exit the inventory and look up with the 63 stack in your hand and press the "hit" trigger.
