It was announced that Halo 3 and Assassins Creed will not be this months free games, they were just mentioned at E3... It was never confirmed that they would be July's free games. I think this is cruel for the people that waited up until 3:00am to get the game. They should have let us know.

The Article Itself :
Microsoft announced at E3 that Xbox Live Gold members will be receiving free games each month like PlayStation Plus members. This July, its not a blockbuster title.

Microsoft announced at E3 that some of the free games Xbox Live Gold members could be receiving included the likes of Halo 3 and Assassins Creed II. Sadly, you will have to wait for another month to get them because July 2013s free game is Defense Grid: The Awakening which is only a XBLA game.

A new title will be available on the 1st and 16th of each month so well have to wait and see what the second game is. Many people assumed Halo 3 and Assassins Creed II were the free games available this July

Major Nelson announced the following on twitter:

FAQ: Halo 3 and Assassins Creed II were mentioned as part of the program no date was given for their release

I dont know what titles will be released when, but Ill let you know what they are when I find out.

Wow thanks for the info, I'm guessing a lot of people were confused because there was a post on the front page saying that the 2 free games this month were Halo 3 and Assassins Creed II

I stayed up till 2 trying to get Halo 3 and play with my friends!

This is BS. Microsoft lies to us again!

Well that is a disappointment. I was really looking forward to play the Halo 3 Multiplayer Once again. Seeming that the games are free we can't complain though. I'll give Defense Grid: The Awakening a play sometime in the week

No Problem, I thought this was quite annoying considering I was one of those people to stay up until 3:00am for Halo 3
