Flashing lite on drive help needed

My mother board has 2 sata slots one is being used by the hard drive and when I plug my drive into the second one it's not detected. If I use the slot being used by the hard drive then the computer does see the liteon but the computer crashes shortly after because the hard drive is not detected in the second slot. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
