Well, I'm not saying that I agree or disagree with either of you here, but I find it to be an interesting question.
Let's assume that Topiary is right, they were both pointless wars which resulted in the deaths of 150,000 civilians, a point which can be debated, but for the sake of argument let's say he's correct.

Does no blame lay at the feet of soldiers in the army who did not kill any innocent people, but still supported the actions of the military?
It's a bit of a dead horse now, but would you not look at a Nazi soldier who spent the entire war defending Berlin with the same contempt that you would look at a Nazi soldier who manned the gates at Auschwitz?

Is it not the duty of the soldier to find out for himself if he is fighting for a truly good cause, or if he is fighting in a pointless war, like Topiary suggests?
If he chooses not to, why should he be spared any blame in the death of innocents caused by that war?

Like I said, I'm not sure who is right in this, but I don't think it's as black and white as either of you are making it seem.

Planning on joining the US Army or Marines. hopefully by the end of my senior year I will have my mind made up

As like most people I have thrown it around my mind once or twice, but I have other plans and goals with my life. If everything went the opposite direction, I could see this as a feasible path for me.

I've contemplated joining as a sort of system security for the government sector which would cover the armed forces after I graduate but I'm not certain yet. It's just a thought

Now here is the 6 reasons people should go.
Education - I've already been to college but.. When you join the any armed forces, you have the opportunity to receive a fully-funded education and/or somewhat of a scholarship. Considering College can be very expensive, the option to receive a college degree without taking out loans is highly impossible unless you're extremely rich or you're going to a shitty college and no one wants to go to a shitty college.
Stability - Joining the military means a steady paycheck and a stable career always, even when unemployed in real life... Many people can't risk the fact of job hunting without cash to pay bills and support your family.
Respect - I personally want to be respected member of their communities, Meaning their environment. Especially how, the military gives you the opportunity to gain respect to even people you've never met in your life. They always have in their minds the sympathy we crash into when joining or being in the military.
Community - The military offers a strong sense of family and community. Those men or women you serve with are your whole family for the time you are alive because you never know rather or not you will die with them.
Adventure - People join because they're looking for a challenge and an adventure.
and Finally, to serve one's country or to risk one's life to protect america's freedom.

Military ******. When i was active duty instead of reserves, I use to make fun of MP's anytime i saw one haha
also, since you've gone to college, did you apply for R.O.T.C?
or no. I don't know if you got a bachelors degree but if you do, apply for O.C.S! You can make a lot of money if you've become an officer

I've been in since I was seventeen because the army allowed this thing called the split program when I was younger. I think only the National Guard offers that now though.
My M.O.S. is "Interior Electrician"
I think I got a 76 on the ASVAB when i went to M.E.P.S.
But yea anyway, I'm on his side, there's plenty of benefits when joining. I hope more people enlist due to only about 2% of the population has in the U.S.A
