ok so it does not come up with the error but it still does not play
What does it do exactly? Does it hang on load up or come with another error? Did you uninstall and reinstall the game?
it just doesnt play when i click on a file called black ops with a skull on it

Did you try mine? I believe the right directX version is 9.0c. uninstall black ops, then uninstall directx, install 9.0c then reinstall black ops. It might not be working if its a pirated version as those tend to be buggy.
