OhDavidLuiz wrote We were never going to play a fluid attacking game against Man City at the Etihad, it just wasn't going to happen. That's not to say our starting line up isn't strong enough to do that capably but rather that we're still working to find the correct balance between attack and defence. Sure we've been brilliant up front but what was last season the league's best defence has struggled against rather weak opposition. It was far too early to risk a thrashing, especially to a title rival.

The Lampard goal was unfortunate but in some distorted way, I'm happy it was him. It's showed Chelsea fans in a positive light (very rare occurrence) for cheering Lampard on before and after kick off. He's a club legend and has done as much for us as anyone during the most successful period of our club history. We won't forget that. He's a professional, he scored, we'll move on.

I am interested to hear more United fans views on their current situation..

I don't know why you have to bring the most successful team in English History possibly the world due to how hard it is to win the premier league. Real Madrid are currently in 7th and 6points the leaders, bayern Munich are fourth in the bundesliga although on the same points as the ones above, Dortmund are 10th, Liverpool are 11th, Everton are 14th and Tottenham are 9th. So there's plenty of world class teams not doing so well.

Half the teams you bring up there aren't even "world class"

To finish in the top 5-6 of the premier league I reckon you have to be world class.

Lounge wrote Our defence is horrible, I think everyone can see that. We have a brilliant attack but in January IF we get a strong CB then we can get more confidence in the fans, And no im not saying we will win the title or that. But we really need to find someone to replace Vidic, Someone who isnt afraid and makes very important tackles at the right moment, If we can get that type of player, Who can command our defence then we will be much stronger, Lets face it, Against the likes of Chelsea and city, We will be more than likely beat. Although i think we can at least score a few goals as we have a good attack. I personally think we can beat Liverpool and Arsenal, But we will struggle badly against City and Chelsea. So That's my opinion on the united situation.

I agree with the need for a commanding central defender but this was known to everyone during the summer. I'm baffled that Van Gaal opted against getting one (especially when Benatia was available). I think the aim of outscoring people may well work to gain some morale but if your defence don't improve, even Liverpool and Arsenal will be too much.

I know that early in the season isn't an accurate judgment but this is on top of the awful season with Moyes. Fans expected Van Gaal to fix things immediately and he hasn't (I'm not hugely surprised). I wanted to know fans opinions because United's problems appear deeper rooted that that of the teams you've mentioned. You're financially unstable (both in wages and transfer fees) and not abiding by the United way (the Welbeck sale is a prime example) - The United decline is one of the focal points of interest in football at the moment. If you think for a second comparing such decline to the form of Bayern/Real makes any sense, you're wrong.

Finally, "most successful team in English History possibly the world" - I'm pretty sure United fans took pride in insulting Liverpool fans on talking about history, look how the tides have turned

I think Everton, Stoke and Liverpool will win tonight. Arsenal v Southampton should be interesting. Good attack for arsenal but obviously a weaker defence, southampton could cause problems.

Really annoys me how teams seem to always target Costa everybody tries to fight him so they get him a red card or a yellow and all these yellows will add up and he will get a suspension but what these teams forget is that Remy is still an amazing striker yes we would do better with Costa but obviously Remy could score goals and he is a good striker i just don't want Costa to keep getting booked because he is one of our star players.

No matter what happened at that City game we would still look comfortable at the top of the league and tbh i don't mind that Lampard scored he will always be a blue deep down and the fact he didn't celebrate was amazing massive respect to Lamps you will always be remembered at Chelsea it was basically an own goal that chelsea conceded. We wouldn't give him a new contract and then he goes and scores against the team that done it, tbh i think there are players out there who would celebrate but not Lampard, at the end of the day if anyone says they hate Lampard they weren't true fans, he is a City player now and he does have to do his job, what a reception he got though, LOVE THE GUY

Even as a rival fan, I must admit that finish was brilliant
Sanchez was a superb signing (although probably not the signing you necessarily needed)

At least Liverpool can score against Middlesbrough.

So hard getting beat 3-1 to West Ham and 1-0 to Aston Villa.

Went to 1-1 so went to extra time.

Liverpool pulled it away with 2-1 in the end.
