My brother has put together this PC that he's looking at buying and I was just wondering if there was any changes that you'd suggest? I know there's a few things already like maybe getting two sticks of 8gb ram instead of one 16gb and the CPU seems a bit too powerful in comparison to the GPU.

He wants to easily play the newest Total War games, some work builder ones like Jurassic park and planet coaster and a few xbox exclusive games.

Thanks for the help!

Absolutely don't go with that build, haha - it's all over the place in that you're going with a CPU that's meant for high end machines when you're putting a £150 graphics card in it, the ram is old and slow etc etc.

Given that the price of a motherboard isn't on the parts list, I'll assume your budget is £1300, give or take;

PCPartPicker Part List

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X 3.8 GHz 8-Core Processor (£223.72 @ Technextday)
CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 50.5 CFM CPU Cooler (£77.38 @ Technextday)
Motherboard: MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK ATX AM4 Motherboard (£159.97 @ Amazon UK)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 Memory (£119.36 @ Box Limited)
Storage: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (£108.48 @ Technextday)
Case: Corsair iCUE 4000X RGB ATX Mid Tower Case (£123.50 @ Technextday)
Power Supply: Corsair RM850x (2021) 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply (£123.59 @ Technextday)
Total: £936.00

You're without a graphics card here, but if £1300 is within the budget area, you're left with £350 ish to play with - go on the Facebook marketplace and seek after a 2070-2080 card, retail cards are still far too overpriced so this would be your best option. With the case I've selected, it comes with 3 RGB fans, however no exhaust fan - if you have a spare 120mm fan lying around it would work, otherwise just add a corsair sp120 fan to the basket.

This build would also look so much cooler internally in that you have the RGB ram, RGB motherboard light, RGB fans on the case etc.

That would be my personal choice - that machine paired with a 2070/2080 will play any triple A game with ease.

I second this, I was using a 2015 Titan X Pascal card (comparable to a 2060-2070) that would run most games just fine. I upgraded just for Ray Tracing, if you don't care about that than you can definitely find a comparable card mentioned above for 3-400 bucks. Good luck!

Agree with them,

you can even find 2060 supers or 2070 supers, for relatively cheap 2-300 bucks
