Game Information
Name: BattleShip Craft
Genre: Action General
Release Date: May 29, 2012
Developers: Phyzios, Inc.
Publishers: Phyzios, Inc.
Modes: Singleplayer and multiplayer
Platforms: iOS
Synopsis
Battleship Craft is a mobile game created by Phyzios and is available on the iOS operating system. This innovative ship-construction and naval warfare simulator allows players to build their very own ships, complete with weapons, armour and engines. Players can let their imagination run wild as the game offers an infinite combination of parts while challenging the player to consider hydrodynamics, weight and balance that affect real ships. The truly unique experience of this game, however, is the ability to use constructed ships in battles against AI-controlled ships or against other people via online multiplayer. Players can design and build many kinds of ships, from aircraft carriers to submarines and from battleships to submarine-aircraft carriers.
Gameplay
The gameplay of BattleShip Craft is fun and interesting, it is mainly separated into two categories - singleplayer and multiplayer. Each giving the opportunity to create ships, submarines and basically anything you can come up with. Within the creation of ships, you are given a huge variety of pieces to choose from to construct your ship. For the weapons you are given the choice of; cannons, torpedo's, missiles, anti air guns and machine guns to name a few. These allow you to come up with deadly ships, however you also have to make sure to construct your ship correctly. The game has some laws of physics and gravity - if you create a ship that is to heavy on one side, not having a high enough bow to compensate with the weight of weaponry or in general just a poor design, it will cause your ship to sink. Luckily there is an easy way to test this out within the customisation part of the game - there is a 'Try Run' button, allowing you to sail around in open sea to trial out your new creation. If you don't feel as confident in building a ship from start, you are given the option to purchase pre-built skeleton ships, or fully built ships using coins acquired from the singleplayer battle or shooting levels. If you purchase these, you are given some room for customisation, however the is a limit to how many pieces you can place on your ship depending on weight.
Singleplayer:
Singleplayer (Drill) on BattleShip Craft gives you the opportunity to test out your skills on AI Ships, it is also a fantastic way to trial out your newly created ships and see how they fit in battle. Within singleplayer, you have two options you are able to select from, both containing various levels to test out your skills and to earn some coins. 'Battle' is one of the options, this allows you to verse AI ships in various levels, earning stars and coins as you do so. The levels begin easy, however they quickly turn harder - forcing you to battle huge cruisers, aircraft carriers, fortresses, airbases and battleships. You are also given another challenge - weather, you can sometimes be thrown into night battles, late afternoon and midday battles. The weather throws a unique trick into play, giving you a challenge and fun as you do so. The other option of singleplayer is 'Shooting', basically this is a shooting range, placing you in the view of a turret and requiring you to hit targets over range, as well as in different weather situations. Coins and stars can be obtained throughout 'Shooting' and come in very handy with purchasing those parts you've always wanted for a ship of yours. Overall, singleplayer is great fun when you don't have internet, or if you're wanting to verse those AI's ships you *thought* you had a chance of beating.
Multiplayer:
Multiplayer is where BattleShip Craft really comes to life. You get to come across some of the most formidable opponents. Each time you enter a new battle with multiplayer, you are always faced with a very new type of ship, or strange objects like robots on platforms shooting at you. Creativity really comes to life with multiplayer, some of the things people can come up with are outstanding and really pressures you to copy at times. Multiplayer is also quite challenging, your opponents are real people now, they will dodge your volley of bullets and have a significant amount of tactics under their belt, not to mention experience as you start versing more difficult players. Multiplayer can be played through Gamecentre, either by playing with friends or searching for others. The other being through bluetooth. Both work quite well, having little to no connection issues. Multiplayer was a fantastic part to this game, you can enjoy countless hours versing new opponents and observing some of the marvellous things people can construct with their creativity.
Graphics
The graphics within BattleShip Craft are quite good for an iOS app. The different pieces you can place on your ship all have a unique amount of detail, along with their shape and general look. The weapons have a sound amount of detail as well, especially when firing or rotating around to narrow in on your enemy. The interface of the game is done very nicely, including all the buttons and images. You can also colour the parts of your ship, giving them an extra amount of detail, the graphics of it is done quite well. When sailing your ship, water is constantly moving around you, little ripples and waves from your engine add a very nice addition. You can also see water shooting up from the bow onto your ships deck. The game in general runs quite smoothly, offering a great experience for the player.
Controls
The controls within the game are quite basic, however they are very simple to learn and to use. The main controls are the wheel and the throttle. The wheel consists of a compass looking shape with a shaded blue dot roughly the shape of the tip of your finger on it. You can use this shaded blue dot to turn your ship to the right, left, front and anywhere in between. The throttle consists of a bar, allowing you to either place it on neutral (no speed), forwards, or rearwards. There is a scale on the throttle, giving 4 smaller bars to show how fast, or slow you are travelling. You are also given a pause button with the regular options. Overall the controls are very easy to learn and pick up.
