Have an Xbox One S with a defective disc drive. Has anyone tried swapping in a One X disc drive in a One S and seeing if that works? I have a One X disc drive on the way. The model number for both disc drives differ by 1 letter but look like the same exact internals and size.
Obviously I will desolder and resolder the daughter board into the new one. I just want to know if the One X's model will work in a One S? |

In theory as long as the board fits and you can solder everything back together and the enclosure fits inside the console. Then there would be no reason for it not to work, if the board was changed then no it would not work as the key would be wrong. |

@opus Thanks for the reply. This is what I was thinking too. The model number on both drives stickers say DG-6M5S. But when you flip both disc drives over, there's another white sticker that says DG-6M5S-01B on the One S, and DG-6M5S-02B on the One X. Unless anyone else has done it and knows for sure, I will wait for the One X disc drive to come on Monday on see for myself. |

You had the 16D4S and the 16D5S. Afaik the boards are interchangeable. So you could use a D4S in a D5S enclosure. |

Confirmed: it works perfectly! Didn't need to do any modifications to the drive's chassis or my one S chassis, everything fit perfectly! The drives are the exact same measurements, even the daughterboard fit perfectly. Make sure to solder that original daughter board to the new one or the drive will only read DVDs. Also make sure you take the rubber part off of the one X's drive chassis and put the plastic cage the one S disc drive came with. |
