I've just built a new system with the following specs:
CPU: Intel Core i5-12600K Memory: Trident Z Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 3200 Drives: 2 X Samsung 980 PRO M.2 2280 1TB PCI-Express Gen 4.0 x4 Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 650W 80+ Gold Case: Fractal Define 7, Black, Silant Mid TowerATX There are no SATA drives or PCIe video card intalled in the system; there isn't anything plugged in to PCIe slots, or the SATA ports. The system runs Windows 10 just fine, but having an issue with the second 980 Pro drive, that shows up as Gen 3.0 x4 in windows and the BIOS. The The BIOS version is F21, the latest update from last month shows this: M.2 Slot Info:
M2M: N/A M2P: Samsung SSD 980 Pro 1TB NVMe3.0 x4 @3.0 x4 M2Q: N/A The Gigabyte Control Center shows, that all the motherboard/chipset drivers are upto the latest update. The motherboard does support upto four Gen4 x4 M.2 NVMe drives, but not ceretain why it does not show up as such? I am probably doing something wrong, but couldn't figure out the source of this issue. Does anyone have an idea what could cause this issue? TIA... |

I'm reading your motherboards manual, and in the below image, I can't really tell but it could be saying that only 1 slot runs at gen4 speeds?
If that's not it, there may be a setting in the bios about the nvme pcie revision and if you need to manually set the specification. |

Thanks Lucritius...
I believe you were referring to page 25 of the manual in your post, quote: Installation Notices for the M.2 and SATA Connectors: Both the quote above and the images in the manual indicate, that only the M2M_SB NVMe port shares bandwidth with SATA3, Port 1 and 2. The other NVMe ports do not share bandwith with the SATA 3 ports. Besides, if there's no SATA port used in the system, does the M2. slot still share the bandwidth, or it can have it all? My second Samsung 980 is connected to M2P_SB M.2 slot, that does not share bandwith. The sequence of the M.2 slots might be messed up, either in the manual or in the BIOS. The M.2 slots are in somewhat increasing alphabetical order from the CPU down:
M2M_SB: second from the CPU M2P_SB: third from the CPU M2Q_SB: fourth from the CPU Based on the BIOS, the first and third M.2 slots have the 980 Pros, but they were intalled into the first and second M.2 slots. By now, I know that was wrong, but why the BIOS report it wrong? I'll try to move around the the second 980 Pro to see, if the bandwith changes.I don't like the heatsink over it anyway, instead of improve cooling, it seems to prevent cooling instead. |
