A new Halo game isn't imminent, according to a post on Xbox Wire, and Halo Infinite isn't losing its support anytime soon. That game and the Slipspace Engine that it runs on will still be supported for the foreseeable future.
“We should talk about things when we have things to talk about, at scale," studio head Pierre Hintze said. "... The next step will be talking about the games themselves.”
To that end, the studio is willing to confirm that there are multiple games being developed. Whereas Halo Infinite and its Slipspace Engine required an all-hands-on-deck like approach, the move to Unreal allows Halo Studios to repurpose its staff.
“We had a disproportionate focus on trying to create the conditions to be successful in servicing Halo Infinite,” says Hintze. “[But switching to Unreal] allows us to put all the focus on making multiple new experiences at the highest quality possible.”
As a result of that shift, Halo Studios has also reorganized its staff to put game developers in the best possible positions to create high quality experiences. "That’s also what this structure has done – we want the people that are day-in-day-out making the games to be the ones to make the decisions on the games," COO Elizabeth van Wyck said.
In a parting note, the team also shared that it will solicit feedback from fans to help shape those creations. "At the end of the day, it’s not just how do we evaluate, it’s how do our players evaluate it?” she added.
Via the Xbox Wire post and the accompanying video, it's clear that Halo Studios is even more dialed in on its goal to deliver Halo games to Xbox players. With the move to Unreal seemingly being a massive relief on the development side, hopefully it won't be long before a new Halo experience can be revealed and released.
