Fortnite has released an all-new throwback game mode, Fortnite OG, and it has already managed to attract 1.1 million concurrent players within two hours of launch. The mode transports players back in time to experience Fortnite's original map, loot pool, and style of play. Epic Games has even brought back the original lobby, sound design, and music. For newer players, it's a chance to experience something new. For returning players, it's a slice of nostalgia.

Epic Games recently released Chapter 6 Season 1 of the battle royale. The new chapter has ushered in a fresh map, a new battle pass, changes to the game's movement systems, and new collaborations with Godzilla and Big Hero 6. Many fans were initially upset with the season's changes to XP, as Fortnite has buffed XP gains significantly in recent updates. While the game's main mode continues to grow and evolve over time, Fortnite OG is a tribute to the game's humble roots.

Fortnite OG has managed to reach 1.1 million concurrent players just hours after its launch. The game's lobby page allows fans to see just how many players are in each mode at any given moment. Even though the new mode was released in the middle of the day for many people, it skyrocketed to the top of Fortnite's charts. This isn't even counting the Fortnite OG Zero Build mode, which has over 200,000 players itself. Epic Games likely anticipated the mode's potential popularity and tried to drive up the hype. The developer even released a unique battle pass for Fortnite OG, just like it has done for LEGO Fortnite, Fortnite Festival, and its main battle royal mode.

While 1.1 million players have flooded Fortnite's servers to experience the new game mode, it's likely many more will join in on the fun over the weekend. Some fans have expressed disappointment with the mode's remixed pass, as they wished to see the return of Fortnite's original battle passes. Unfortunately for some players, it seems as if Epic Games has written off the idea of bringing back old battle passes. However, plenty of fans are excited about the new remix skins. For older players who already own the original passes, this still gives them new cosmetics with a nod to their original skins.

This resounding milestone comes just after Fortnite broke its own concurrent player record in November's finale of its recent season, Chapter 2 Remix. The event featured artists like Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Ice Spice, and the late rapper Juice WRLD. Despite a few minor hiccups with the release of Chapter 6 Season 1, many fans feel as if Epic Games has been on a bit of a hot streak recently. With the immediate success of Fortnite OG, it seems like the future is bright for the battle royale.
