The game is the latest offering from Springloaded, the studio behind Let’s Build a Zoo.
Described as a game dev simulator, the game has players creating their own MMORPG while also managing the creation and running of a video game studio.
“The new demo for Let’s Build a Dungeon provides a taste of what to expect from the full release, with player choice being at the forefront of the gameplay,” Springloaded says.
“Players are tasked with building a fantasy world filled with quests to share with virtual beta testers, with branching paths and multiple quest options to choose from.
“The demo also marks a historic moment for your in-game studio, inspired by the iconic real-life events from Ultima Online’s development involving Lord British.”
In the full game, players initially recruit and manage development staff, including artists, programmers and planners, to create new assets and game mechanics. Development schedules, ad campaigns and press relationships have to be managed, and decisions have to be made regarding game delays and sacrificing the original vision for fan requests.
Players can also actually develop the games themselves, creating quests, towns, monsters and dungeons in an attempt to attract more ‘players’. They can then jump into the game to ban troublemakers to keep the game community positive.
As well as the management sim aspect, Let’s Build a Dungeon also includes a Creative mode, which is an open sandbox. Here players can create their own RPGs, and are free to write their own stories, create dialogue and cutscenes, draw their own characters and adjust the gameplay mechanics.
They can then play their game, share it online or play other players’ games via a built-in game browser.
Let’s Build a Dungeon is coming to PC and Xbox in 2025.
