Steam Hardware survey shows an increase in adoption of Windows 10

3.9
Steam has released its monthly hardware survey results and it’s looking good for Microsoft and AMD. The Steam Hardware survey is done by Valve every month to collect data related to hardware and software used by gamers.

According to the August numbers published by Steam, AMD has managed to capture around 20% of the CPU market. This is definitely good news for AMD but Intel seems to be struggling at this point. AMD has also managed to capture 15% of the GPU market which is more or less the same. With 75% of the market share, Nvidia is currently dominating the GPU market. Since the launch of RTX cards, Nvidia has managed to create a virtual monopoly when it comes to supporting real-time ray tracing technology. Not only that, but Nvidia managed to grab the first 10 spots on the Steam survey with GTX 1060 being the most popular card.

Moving on to software, Windows 10 has managed to please 73% of the Steam gamers. Windows 10, then is followed by Windows 7 which still holds around 19% of the market. Windows in total now holds 96% of the market and is followed by OSX with a mere 2% of the market.

Steam publishes both hardware and software surveys every month. The company allows gamers to opt-in so the software can collect their PC specs which is used for the survey. Due to the high demand for Steam, the survey usually gives a fair idea of what hardware and softwares are used by gamers in a particular month.
