IW discusses ‘Warzone Chapter 2’ and confirms Modern Warfare sequel

Activision has revealed the future of Warzone, including a new client, during a conversation with Call of Duty influencers.

According to content creators such as ProReborn and Jackfrags, during a call with the co-studio head of Infinity Ward Patrick Kelly, the team discussed its hopes for the next instalment of Warzone.

The call also revealed that this year’s Call of Duty title would launch with a ‘Sandbox mode’ although no details about this mode were given.

Also revealed was that future integrations of Call of Duty titles into Warzone should be smoother now that all teams working on Call Of Duty are working on the same engine.

Patrick Kelly mentioned that he hopes in the new chapter of Warzone that “no two matches play the same” and to “let players define what winning looks like”.

Activision also confirmed on the call that 2022’s game will be a sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare.

As first reported by VGC, Modern Warfare 2’s campaign will be centred around the drug war against Columbian cartels.

Sources said the single-player story is “a grittier take on Modern Warfare 2019’s campaign”, with more close-quarters combat, tricky decision making, and the classic Call of Duty set-piece moments fans have come to expect.

Earlier this month, Activision confirmed that Infinity Ward would lead the development of 2022’s Call of Duty premium and “Warzone experiences”.

The announcement was made as part of Activision Blizzard‘s fourth quarter 2021 financial results.
