Tekken series Director Katsuhiro Harada has confirmed via Twitter that Tekken 8 will feature cross-platform play and rollback netcode. Though quite a few details are missing, the director provided a piece of news that players had been waiting to hear since the game's first reveal.

Harada took to Twitter to answer fan questions about the much-awaited fighting game, revealing that he had been pushing for cross-platform play in Tekken ever since the previous generation of consoles was released. The director has casually announced that players from different platforms will be able to take on each other in Tekken 8, with the game also featuring rollback netcode for a better player experience.

There are still a few details to be announced, as Harada has not confirmed that the cross-platform play will be available for Tekken 8 at launch, so there remains a possibility that it will be added to the game with a future update. However, rollback netcode and cross-platform play have become must-have features for a lot of fighting game fans, allowing players to match online to show their prowess and hone their skills regardless of their platform. That’s normal in this day and age.' ” Harada said about rollback netcode in a separate Tweet to a fan.

In other Tekken 8 news, developer Bandai Namco has revealed Asuka Kazama and Leroy Smith as playable characters via a pair of gameplay trailers, which showcase the two fan-favorite characters in action against each other. Tekken 8 does not have a firm release date yet, but it is confirmed to be rolling out later this year.
