Gran Turismo 6 first week UK sales around five times less than GT5

4.6
Gran Turismo 6 is way off the pace of its predecessor, after debuting in the UK with close to five times less sales than Gran Turismo 5. Yes, the presence of two next-gen consoles is no doubt a factor - also GT5 came out on a Wednesday, and GT6 on Friday - but it's still a concerning performance by the PS3 racer, especially considering it had this week to itself, retail-wise. To add insult to injury, it placed eighth in the UK charts this week - behind the nearly three-month-old Grand Theft Auto 5.

With Gran Turismo 6 failing to light up the charts, this week's podium is the same as last week's: Battlefield 4 in third, FIFA 14 second, and Call of Duty: Ghosts top for the second week running. There's barely any shuffling to mention either, outside of Killzone: Shadow Fall dropping from fourth to ninth. Instead of dwelling on that, let's close with a gif that harks back to happier times.

Well I don't even know anyone who picked that game up so it isn't much of a surprise that gta 5 was more popular.

The next dying franchise? I guess thats so.

Is this game that popular anymore?

I am somewhat surprised that Gran Turismo 6 failed to surpass sales of the previous instalment, but I feel it is somewhat understandable as Forza has pretty much taken over the car racing genre with Need For Speed at a solid second. As for the game doing better on sales than the likes of Battlefield, oh no, it simply isn't possible.

Jayden- That's disappointing. I thought GT6 would be far more popular than GT5. But I suppose, due it's release date and next gen consoles, it's obviously not able to sell as many copies.

GT6 should have been a PS4 launch title, and it should have been an honest-to-god revamping of the entire core of the series. Snappy visuals, audio design with some energy (instead of elevator music and generic ass rock music), and a completely revamped user interface. They especially missed a chance, considering this was a year where Forza kind-of stumbled a bit.

It would help a lot more if they actually told us what exactly is so much better with 6 ... seems like it's just a 'complete' 5. And even then, the cars that were missing the 'HD' version still look lousy in comparison.

KAQ Doesn't it mean gran turismo 5 not GTAV ... but yeh the game isn't good anyway .........

what do you mean by this?

Gran Turismo 6 sold five times less units on it's launch week then Grand Theft Auto 5 did in that same week

KatsumiPosted:

Well this is actually pretty surprising as Grand Theft Auto V has been out for a few months now. Seeming that not many people are interested in the Gran Turismo franchise

GTA Will always be more Superior.

All game series become boring
Call of duty was boring since mw3s release (bo2 was amazing)
Assassins creed (been dieing since AC2)
Ratchet And Clank ( Very Repetitive)
All leading games die because the have no ideas

(Halo was sold to a crappy company which copy and paste)
