Twitch Adding Ability to Buy Games
In an update on its blog, the company has announced its new “Get It On Twitch” initiative, which will open up the platform as a new place to buy digital games directly from the livestreaming platform while also supporting its numerous streamers at the same time.
Starting in spring of this year, the company will begin rolling out the ability to buy games from the service while watching livestreams, with a button below the stream giving an option to purchase the game that you are viewing (if available through Twitch), as sales will go through its parent company, Amazon. Games purchased from the platform will be available either through Twitch’s own game launcher app, or “existing services” such as Uplay.
When a title is purchased, the streamer that is playing the title (only those that are partnered) will receive a 5% share of the revenue from the game’s purchase, while purchases over $4.99 will also get users a Twitch Crate with special digital loot for the platform, such as emotes, chat badges, and more. Developers of the title will receive a 70% share of the revenue from the game’s purchase, while (presumably) the remaining shares will go to Twitch and other parties.
Purchases through streams will be available worldwide, and while current pricing is only available in USD, the company explained that “support for more currencies” will be available in the coming months. So far, developers that have been confirmed to support the feature at launch include: Ubisoft, Telltale Games, Digital Extremes, Hi Rez Studios, Double Fine Games, Fred Wood, 11Bit, Jackbox Games, tinyBuild, Raw Fury, Devolver Digital, Gambitious, Trion Worlds, Blue Mammoth Games, iNK Stories, Versus Evil, Proletariat, Paradox Interactive, Vlambeer and Campo Santo.
Twitch’s integration of its new in-platform game buying feature will be begin rolling out this spring – you can watch a new video from the company below for a breakdown of the new initiative:

Wizard never thought this game would come for a live streaming site. Wonder what type of games they might actually sell but the future awaits
Yeah, they already have a huge amount of traffic and I doubt it will slow down anytime soon. Only thing that could be a concern is if they will be able to match steam which is hardly possible since the "steam library" of games has been accumulated from over several years which could but twitches game purchasing in the dust and with a lack of content.

Twitch is owned by Amazon so idk what this has to do with microsoft. Also, It really won't hurt steam tbh. Twitch is far too late into the market to get any significant share if they make their own platform. Too many people(like myself) have far too much invested in steam libraries to care about having another library to deal with. It will likely just be a ton of low effort indie titles.
Microsoft wont care for a silly small company like twitch.
twitch is hardly a small company. Amazon bought it for just short of 1 billion dollars. and that was in 2014, it's only gotten bigger.

I really like the idea and the fact that they are expanding, even if it's just to support streamers directly, this is still an amazing thing.

I don't know how well this will go as there are cheaper sources for your games. Feel like people will just buy the game to support their favorite streamer and new chat emotes and there's nothing wrong with that.
