Since the announcement of Call of Duty: WWII yesterday, a short video has begun playing as a sponsored post on Instagram and an ad on YouTube. The 15-second clip doesn’t show a lot, just waves breaking on a beach, followed by the date for the Call of Duty: WWII reveal. That said, it isn’t completely meaningless.
The waves and beach are almost certainly a reference the Invasion of Normandy, the largest amphibious military assault in human history. On June 6, 1944, the Allies launched D-Day, which saw 1.3 million British, American, Canadian, and French troops storm the beaches of Normandy on the north coast of France, successfully establishing a vital beachhead. Recent leaked promotional materials confirm the Invasion of Normandy/D-Day will be a major part of Call of Duty: WWII…
