Xbox One X Will Feel Like A Premium PC, Says Microsoft
Speaking to MCVUK, for instance, Microsoft’s Head of Xbox Operations Dave McCarthy played up the power of the One X, saying that it will ‘feel like a premium PC experience overall.’
“The way we look at it, choice feels like the right principle right now,” he said. “There are consumers that really want to balance price against capabilities. But there will always be customers in your segment of gamers that want the best of the best, and I think that up until now the PC space was really the only place they could go to get that. They now have the ability to get that in the console space.
“We’re all about the developer choice there overall. Different developers are going to choose to do different things for different game formats. But the good news is that the Xbox One SDK that everyone writes to will be able to handle that variation. You don’t need a unique version for Xbox One X. It’s just going to know if I’m running a One X, will take advantage of it and going to feel like a premium PC experience overall.”
I suppose it works as an analogy, but given that high end premium PCs run circles around the Xbox One X in raw specs- especially in terms of the CPU- I don’t know if that’s necessarily a direct comparison he wants to make. The Xbox One X launches on November 7.

Since when do "premium" pc's run at 30fps? Yes, they claim it's 4k, but if I still used a console I would prefer 1440p/1080p 60fps over 4k 30fps.

Loodkerrry Yeah it's definitely not a Premium PC if they keep all your filed stored behind a percentage of how full your hard drive is. Console is never going to be as good as PC unless they make an upgradeable console that starts at $400 but has lots of upgrade options.
Modularity on a console would still come with a HEFTY price premium. Imagine how much a GTX 1080 would sell for if Microsoft was the distributor... doesn't sound very good to me.
That being said, the exact wording was "... there will always be customers in your segment of gamers that want the best of the best, and I think that up until now the PC space was really the only place they could go to get that. They now have the ability to get that in the console space." I agree with you that PC will always be superior for the reason you stated as well as MANY more, but the statement isn't incorrect. For the first time that I can think of, consoles will have a visual experience that isn't an abomination. Devs can finally not skimp on detail, resolution, or frame rate.
TaigaAisakaVMP Well you have to look at it this way , some people don't like the hassle of building their own PC & buying a Pre-Built PC isn't worth it at all ... So they can resort to the Xbox One X for that 4K experience .
They're not going to get a true 4k experience like Microsoft is claiming. Xbox One X's GPU is roughly the equivalent of a 1060 GPU or an RX 470 maybeeeeeeee RX 480. I had seen some posts before on Reddit comparing it to a 980 GPU so I'll just leave it at that. Neither of those cards are full 4k cards at all. They are entry 4k cards sure, but you have to sacrifice texture quality massively and even then, you're not going to hit 60 FPS @ 4k. Just won't happen. The 1080 TI GPU and Titan X Pascal right now is the 4k GPU where you can run most games at high settings 4k and still be getting 60 FPS or very close. Xbox One X is not going to hit native 4k @ 60 FPS with the GPU they have. They are just saying "4k 60 FPS" and a lot of their user base doesn't know the difference and assumes it's going to be a 4k console. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 both said their consoles were going to run 1080p @ 60 FPS; neither did at launch. If any games are going to be "4k" 60 FPS on Xbox One X, it is a non-native 4k resolution that is being upscaled. It's just Microsoft misinforming their user base (again) and people are eating it up. I don't believe consoles will be at true 4k 60 FPS until another year or two. The 1080 TI was a great jump with how cheap it is compared to the Titan X Pascal. Given AMD's Vega line soon and the rumoured Volta line from Nvidia, hopefully 4k will soon become the norm and consoles will be able to put a much more powerful GPU inside without having to skyrocket their console prices.
You're definitely right, but even with the GPU in the Xbox One X being equivalent to those cards, it has the advantage of being built for ONLY gaming with optimization specifically for one system. I really wish that 4k wasn't the aim, and instead that focus was shifted towards texture quality and frame rates. That's too much to ask for apparently. But while this console won't deliver "true" 4k gaming as most would like it, it will undoubtedly be a massive improvement over the current console, and it will be good enough to keep people satisfied for now.
Question time: does anyone know if there is an actual reason they don't just throw graphics settings into console games? Most of the games I play I would happily turn down the resolution for a few extra frames or some better texture detail:/
I think the reason why there isn't a texture/video setting option on consoles is because most people really don't care about having that option. Consoles don't really have to accommodate for lower end hardware unlike you might find with someone buying a PC with hardware from 7 years ago. The only exception would be if something is wrong with your console (dying hardware) where you may need a lower texture/video setting. On top of that, most consoles are built to hit their FPS, be that 30 or 60, it's then up to the developers to optimise the game correctly for that console. Most console games don't naturally run at max or even high settings, so there is very little reason in the eyes of developers for users to try and put the settings lower. Adding onto that, lower textures can be an advantage in some cases, such as on low textures on Overwatch, bushes are gone for you, meaning you could snipe from where one is, but the enemy watching the killcam thinks you're shooting with limited visibility, even though you have full visibility; stuff like that is what consoles don't want happening but PC has no choice but to allow that as everyone has different hardware and rendering those bushes on an already low-end PC might be the difference from getting higher FPS.

It's a good alternate option for PC quality gaming for cheaper, but has severe limitations unlike the PC.
