Rocket League Passes 34 Million Players; New Ban System Additions

4.5
Today, developer Psyonix announced thats its highly popular soccer with cars game, Rocket League, which recently turned two years old, has surpassed 34 million players across PS4, Xbox One, and PC; a number up one million from less than a month ago.

Alongside the player milestone announcement, Psyonix also stressed in the same blogpost how much it values keeping Rocket League a consistently safe and a harassment-free place, “where players of all ages and backgrounds can come together and execute the sweetest of aerial goals and backflip saves.” Unless they’re noobs, of course.

According to Psyonix, in order to keep things safe, this week it is adding to its Player Report system by introducing a new layer of automation to the report-ban process. Apparently, this automation, which it has coined the “Language Ban” system, will automatically ban players from online matches when certain words — such as racial slurs — are seen in reports filed by players.

Initially there will be a list of over 20 words (and variants) — undisclosed to the public — however, this list will continue to evolve over time to include words and phrases from multiple languages for example.

Each word will contain its own threshold, and as soon as that threshold for any words has been reached, that player will be automatically subject to a ban. Bans will typically start at 24 hours, then increase to 72 hours, then to one week, and eventually to a permanent ban.

Psyonix concludes:
Of the thousands of reports we receive every day, the majority are tied to in-game abuse and harassment — typically in the form of abusive language. This new Language Ban system will help us address reports quickly and precisely while we also continue our usual monitoring of Reddit and other social channels for feedback.

We will organically update our ban policies and system logic as time goes on, of course, but the Rocket League community is the most important element of them all. So, if you see another player using abusive language during your match, please report them, mute them, and let us take care of the rest.

I picked this up on PS4 when it was free for gold member's, Best game I ever got for free one of my favorite's.
Glad to see them taking more control over player's like this, Wouldn't be a rocket league session without getting some salty kid spamming the chat with god knows what language (bad language).
