According to the announcement, this is the first time since the launch of the console that all GameStop stores in the United States will have the system in stock at the same time.
Interestingly, those who will go to a store in person will be able to purchase the console on its own for $299.99, while online you’ll find only bundles starting at $419.99.
Apparently the retailer is taking advantage of this additional allocation to stock up on pre-owned systems as they’re also running a trade-in promotion valid only if you bring in your older console to purchase a Switch.
You’ll get $200 credit for a PS4 or PS4 Pro, $150 credit for an Xbox One of Xbox One S, $100 for New Nintendo 3DS,New Nintendo 3DS XL, New Nintendo 2DS XL,Wii U or PS Vita, and $ 75 Nintendo 3DS or Nintendo 3DS XL. This promotion is valid only until August 20th.
This is quite a bit higher than you’d get if you traded those consoles in for something else. For instance an old Xbox One or an Xbox One S with a 500 GB HDD would only net you $100, while a PS4 would grant you only a credit of $150 for the original model, $155 for the slimmed-down version, and $180 for the Pro.
GameStop Senior Vice President of Merchandising Bob Puzon accompanied the press release with a comment, mentioning that the Switch is one of the most sought-after consoles in 2017 for the retailer, and boasting the value of the trade-in offer.
“The Nintendo Switch continues to be one of the most sought after consoles in 2017. This is a great opportunity to buy an individual Nintendo Switch system for yourself, or to buy a gift ahead of the holiday season. Plus, with the credit from the trade-in deals, it makes the purchase of a Nintendo Switch a no-brainer.”
