Nintendo Announces Details for Mario Tennis Aces Tournament

4.3
With the unveiling of a new Super Smash Bros. title, and the general hype surrounding Nintendo’s E3 presence, it may have been easy to forget that Mario Tennis Aces is due out next month for the Nintendo Switch.

Perhaps as a show of confidence, Nintendo has announced the details for a special pre-launch online tournament for the newest title. From 06/01 (starting at 6:00PM PDT) through 06/03 (11:59PM PDT), players will be able to play a demo of Mario Tennis Aces on their Nintendo Switch console. Everyone that participates in the event will unlock Mario’s iconic blue overalls in the full version of the game.

News on the latest entry in the Mario Tennis series has been relatively quiet in the past few months. Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, the previous entry in the series, received a mixed reaction from fans and critics alike. Among the most common complaints about the title were a general lack of content and the absence of Nintendo’s signature polish.

However, with the upcoming arrival of Mario Tennis Aces, it looks like Nintendo is going to right the ship. The game adds a ton of new mechanics such as parrying, controlling time, and the ability to break your opponent’s racket. In addition to this, the game is also bringing back a story mode, something fans have been pining for since the days of Mario Tennis: Power Tour.

Mario Tennis Aces will be available for the Nintendo Switch on June 22nd, 2018. For a closer look at the upcoming demo and online tournament, you can watch the announcement trailer from Nintendo below:
