PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' player count is plummeting

4.7
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds played a key role in popularizing the battle royale genre but its popularity has dwindled significantly since the beginning of the year.

According to data from SteamCharts, PUBG’s peak player count reached its highest point ever in January 2018 at 3,236,027 yet over the last 30 days, the best the game has mustered is 1,861,002 players. Similarly, the average player count has dropped from 1,584,886.8 users in January to just 843,218.6 users over the last month.

As of writing, there are 443,462 people currently playing PUBG with a peak of 1,535,178 players on Steam earlier in the day according to Valve’s own stats.

Several factors are likely contributing to PUBG’s declining numbers. For one, the game is no longer a spring chicken as it launched in beta more than a year ago. The ongoing battle against cheaters has also taken its toll on the game and the community and the sudden rise in popularity of Epic’s free-to-play Fortnite Battle Royale certainly hasn’t helped matters.

Even with the drop in players, PUBG is still a crowd-pleaser that remains incredibly popular. It’s still the most popular game on Steam by a large margin (based on peak player count) and is likely still bringing in a decent amount of cash.

Yeah, I agree, most players probably went to fortnite. Don't get me wrong, i still play PUBG but not as much as I used to. Fortnite has literally took over. its constant fighting and being creative. Whereas, PUBG, is more of a tactical game, where you have to be patient.

Pretty sure 90% of the players went over to Fortnite lol, no surprise there as the game is so much better.

Well this answers my thread already, this is insane!

This is no surprise with Fortnites success over the past year and hopefully PUBG will actually do something about it other then trying to sue Epic.

Haha Cant compete with the behemoth of fortnite

WLRPosted:

Of course it's plummeting that's why it's tryna sue they better invest the money they made to make a good game

Bye PUBG, you shall not be missed. Game's trash.

They are just too slow to respond the concern over China#1 hackers, the farming of points with none responsive players and the lack of optimisation and content has meant the player base is moving elsewhere. Look at h1z1 now its dead and has no hope of a revival. PUBG seems to be headed the same way.

Yeah its been pretty clear to see too and yet the die hard fans will say they've been working on the new map and then the game will be revived, nope not at all, yet could you imagine the pure hype that would ensue if Epic suddenly released an entire new map...

LebronIs6 Good. Maybe it'll spark some change in how they are handling this god forsaken game

There are few games that run worse than pubg on the xbox and xbox one x. I like the game but damn does it feel like its been forgotten about as far as fixing lag and fps

But compared to the games people actually play? I haven't seen a game worse on xbox than PubG yet just saying.
