Super Smash Bros Ultimate Was The Most Registered Evo 2019 Title

4.5
Super Smash Bros Ultimate is ranking in as the top registered for game for this year's Evo tournament later in August.

Super Smash Bros has always been a big game at Evo. So, it would should come to no surprise that Super Smash Bros Ultimate was the most registered Evo 2019 title.

Coming from the President himself, Joey Cuellar tweeted out the top nine most registered for titles as of right now. The list goes as follows:

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Street Fighter V
Tekken 7
Mortal Kombat 11
Samurai Shodown
Under Night In Birth
Dragonball FighterZ
Soul Calibur 6
Blazblue: Cross Tag Battle

With Evo just around the corner, it is cool to see smash reigning supreme on top of the list. What does suprise me a bit though is Mortal Kombat coming in 4th. The game just recently released a couple of months ago, so, I would have thought plenty of players would want to compete in the new title. But, I have also realized that the game, while it sells a whole ton of copies, is a much more casual experience compared to Street Fighter or Tekken games.

On the topic of Super Smash Bros Ultimate, where the heck is the next DLC character? I am starting to think that Nintendo is really going to space out these announcements because we heard about the addition of Joker way back in December. It is now June, a full six months since then and there has still not been any word on the next character release. Hopefully, we hear or see some new character trailer at Nintendo’s direct during E3 this year. Fingers crossed for Banjo & Kazooie!

This game is probably the best in the series and the reason so many got a switch. Not a surprise to me

TTG I'm not surprised the game has pretty much infinite replay value, and anyone can easily pick up a controller and play.

wouldnt say sasily pick up a controller and play theres a very harsh learning curve for pc players who hate controllers and non fighting game fans, as for infinite replay value thats something that is dependent on person, imo theres not much to do on it but it is a good game none the less

It's not even people who aren't used to controllers, it's just legit the learning curves of techniques in the game. You need to learn frame data for characters, how they have aerial/tumbling lag, landing lag, lag when hitting shield, do they have terrible lag time on grabs. Then movements like short hopping, wave dashing, dash dancing, teching on stage spikes, how to reverse aerial rush and so much more that I'm not even going to bother typing up right now. I'll always say, if you want to get arthritis before you're 40, jump into the competitive Melee scene. Ultimate is a little easier than Melee is in terms of techs you need to learn to even be considered remotely knowledgeable for the game, but it's learning curve is still stupid high for people in general because the jump from Smash 4 to Ultimate in terms of movement is pretty drastic.

OT: I'm not surprised at all it was the most registered game. Smash Ultimate had so much hype around it from it's announcement, even well past it's release date. It sold very well and was/is just a very polished game that led to tier lists not being so damn restrictive like before. It kinda shows a game has done well, when Melee Pros/"Gods" come over and stay over on Smash Ultimate to play it as their secondary game, when they have dropped previous titles within a couple days or weeks. Speaking of that, I also feel it has to do with the fact that Melee wasn't at Evo this year (salty Melee nerds destroyed the Smash Subreddits during that announcement) but that also let more people focus on one Smash game since there wasn't Smash Melee and Smash Brawl or Smash Melee and Smash 4 like previous Evo events. I also in a way feel like Smash Melee players jumped into signing up in a "grudge" thought, because a lot of people in the Melee community try to say Ultimate has been the easiest it has ever been, when that's further than the truth minus dedicated short hop button/macro. Really excited to see how the E3 tournament is going to fair this year because last year, everyone was trying out the new characters so there was never any really solid matchups that anyone was too familiar with.
