After a slip of the tongue during this years Star Wars Celebration, today’s E3 2019 showing confirmed the existence of an even more complete collection of LEGO Star Wars games. To coincide with the end of the Skywalker saga in theaters, the intellectual property that kickstarted Traveller’s Tales line of licensed LEGO titles will receive its own capper.
Previous entries in this Lego subseries include the first Lego Star Wars game that depicted the full prequel film trilogy, shortly followed by a sequel that reinterpreted the original trilogy with the same, silent, quirky sense of humor from the first game. With no more live-action films to adapt at the same time, Traveller’s Tales focused on the 3D animated show The Clone Wars for the series’ third game.
Most recently, Traveller’s Tales adapted the then-new movie The Force Awakens, adapting the plot of that movie and even events that took place beforehand—a bit of padding, but sensible given that The Last Jedi wouldn’t release until two years after. With a complete collection, even more complete than the previous compilation of the first two games, the Rian Johnson 2017 movie, which is in no way controversial, and the upcoming The Rise of Skywalker, will make up some new content for this next big game.
The success of the Lego Star Wars games led to a number of additional licensed Lego games, with franchises getting the Lego treatment including Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, Batman, The Avengers, Indiana Jones, and probably more that I’m forgetting. With so many games of this type, it’s natural that some players may have felt some fatigue for these games’ co-operative and collecting-heavy gameplay.
Luckily for me, I never got into those other Lego games after the second Lego Star Wars games, so I’ll be looking at this new one through a lens of nostalgia rather than exhaustion. Lego Star Wars: The Complete Collection will be coming to Xbox One, PC, and presumably all other modern platforms in 2020. Check out the trailer below:
