Earlier this week, a new interview with former Sledgehammer Games co-founder Michael Condrey was released in which the developer talked about how Activision had supposedly pushed Infinity Ward to make Call of Duty: Modern Warfare darker than past games. “That said, MW seems like a tough challenge for any studio, especially if they are being pushed by publishing to be more controversial and ‘darker’ for the sake of headlines,” Condrey stated in the interview. Now, it seems as though Infinity Ward is directly pushing back on this notion.
In a new tweet that went out earlier today, Infinity Ward stated that it’s not being pushed by anyone to make Call of Duty: Modern Warfare anything other than what they want it to be. “To be very clear, we’re making the exact game we want to make, and we can’t wait until October 25th,” the tweet from Infinity Ward said.
It was a bit surprising to see Infinity Ward respond so directly to this story that has been making the rounds over the past day or so. Usually, you don’t see face-forward companies make responses like this in such a public manner, especially to a talking point stemming from Condrey that I don’t believe was all that damaging to the company or Modern Warfare. Regardless, I guess Infinity Ward just wanted to make it known that Activision hasn’t pushed them to make Modern Warfare darker whatsoever and that all development decisions have seemingly been their own.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to arrive on October 25 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
To be very clear, we’re making the exact game we want to make, and we can’t wait until October 25th.
